Our team and the history of the Grüninger Schule Thalwil
Behind our Grüninger Schule stands a dedicated team with extensive experience, passion, and pedagogical expertise. Together, we shape a school where personal relationships, trust, and the joy of learning are paramount principles. Our history is rooted in the conviction that children learn best where they feel safe and valued.
Support with passion and commitment
Passion, vision and energy
The school was founded in 1991 by Ellen Grüninger – driven by the desire to create a personal, vibrant learning environment where children receive individual support and holistic guidance in their development. Its launch realised a long-held dream – fuelled by pedagogical conviction, extensive professional experience, and great personal commitment.
Before becoming self-employed, Ellen Grüninger worked for more than two decades as a teacher of German and business subjects at various commercial, vocational, and high schools. Following a health-related career change, she took on responsible roles in the IT industry – including working as a software tester, support specialist, trainer, and marketing manager. Later, she managed a vocational school in Zurich with 32 employees.
When her older son Thomas graduated from teacher training college in 1991, the timing was absolutely right: Together they started their own school – small, family-oriented, and audacious.
Ever since, Ellen Grüninger has shaped the school with great care, warmth, and an enduring presence. Her ready ear for children, parents, and staff, her quick and unbureaucratic way of providing support, and her clear, heartfelt leadership have created an atmosphere of trust that continues to form the foundation of our school.
